Third Party Logistics Case Study
See how we designed a Workflow layout for a busy Third Party Logistics company
We were invited to evaluate a packing area for a leading third party logistics provider who wanted to streamline
their operations whilst maintaining an tailored service for their clients. Their existing operation had grown within
a large enclosed room which helped to keep the operators warm in the winter, but was coming under pressure
from the volume of goods being packed. The picking side of the operation was working well, so the focus was on
moving the packed goods.
Our client had come up with the concept outlined below, which we developed to provide them with 12 packing positions placed up to manual roller conveyors that fed the packed goods onto a Powered conveyor that looped out through the partition wall to the palletisation area. We worked this concept out in detail, so the client could see the impact that it had on the warehouse. The main issue was the way it reduced the width of the aisle in the
warehouse, restricting access to the racking opposite.
Our Solution
We decided that the conveyors were taking up a lot of space in the room, so we came up with this concept of three sloping conveyors - each feeding packed goods out through the partition wall. This allowed a further three packing stations to be included in the packing room. It also allowed the length of the conveyor to be set so that the warehouse aisle still functions.
